Let’s Be Real

It has been a while since I have written a post. Let’s be real; COVID has created new challenges that once made simple tasks intense. On the flipside, COVID has also encompassed fruitful silver linings, in my world, at least. This pandemic has taught me the nitty-gritty of gratitude and appreciating the small things I once took for granted.

Each day is a new day, and some easier than others. I used to journal more, meditate more, and workout more. This is me being real saying that those are habits I need to re-instate in my daily regime. I have a new book on my nightstand, and each night I try to get past one page. The book is good, but my brain won’t pause as simply as it used to. Let’s be real, 2020 was a lot, and 2021 has its hardships.

Like you, each day, I read inspiring posts, but at times they do not resonate. I need to feel how I feel and embrace that. If I feel like shit, then heck, I am going to feel like shit, but I will ensure it passes. I struggle when I read items that say “just be happy” because we cannot just be happy. That is unhealthy. We need to feel every emotion to be healthy. If you are sad, be sad, but learn how to cope with it, learn how to embrace it, and learn how to let it pass when the time is right. Often we need to know when to ask for help. Why is therapy still taboo or a hidden thing people feel ashamed of? We need the view of therapy to be as cool as going to a yoga class (albeit online). This past month I connected with a spiritual and religious advisor to chat with once a month. I view it as a mental fitness class for my brain. When we learn to talk to trusted sources, we open our world to a healthier viewpoint while letting junk decrease and matters get resolved. Therapy IS cool, and it IS helpful.

Let’s be real and recognize that making it through one day is a massive accomplishment. Everyone has a different life situation, and therefore we cannot judge or compare and contrast. We can offer hope, kindness, help, and compassion, but we also need to offer those items to ourselves. As trendy as the term self-care has become, it does matter because you matter.

I have no idea what to expect of 2021, but do know my dear readers, you have me shall you ever need an outlet of support, guidance, or just a sprinkle of hope. I am not perfect. I do not have all my shit together. I am human. I am real, but together we can make it through this new world.

Tonight my goal is to re-open my journal and focus on what went well versus focusing on the negative. Again, feel how you need to feel, but learn how to let it pass and always know that asking for help is incredible.
