Whenever life feels like it is time for a pause, one of my favorite ways to reset is by visiting the zoo. It might sound simple, but stepping into a world filled with animals is like stepping out of my own worries and into a magical wonderland.
Zoo’s are soothing to the soul as we observe animals going about their day. I can stand for ages watching giraffes calmly grazing or koala bears nestled in a tree. To observe such scenes reminds me to slow down and breathe, to embrace the moment and the need to pause.
Being outside in the fresh air, surrounded by trees and walking paths, feels like a mini retreat. Yes, even with the kids in tow. The zoo offers a unique blend of nature and learning, which keeps my mind focused on something greater than me. To watch my children adorn over polar bears is a gentle reminder of gift of time.
Though, if you are like me, and curious about the animals welfare, the zoo’s offer an opportunity to learn about the organizations conservation efforts and how they care for endangered species. Such data encourages me to take better action in protecting animals and their rights. Their stories often remind me that if these sweet creatures can thrive against the odds, maybe I can tackle whatever challenges I may face, too.
For me, the zoo is more than an outing, it is a reminder of life’s simplicity and beauty. It grounds me, helps me reconnect with the world and my family, and leaves me feeling lighter, especially my wallet post shopping for the kids at gift store.
So, if you are ever feeling stuck, stressed or need a pause, go to your local zoo. You might find, like I do, that the cure for much lies in the beauty of being with animals.
